Description
The latest band to sprout out of the rich soil that is the Bay Area indie-rock scene is Albany’s The May Fire, a fiery quartet fronted by singer/guitarist Catty Tasso. Though Tasso’s history can be traced to a number of past projects, she seems to have finally met her match in the freewheeling, garage-rock sound of The May Fire. What’s more, the group has already managed to secure a devout local fan base, as well as capture some real media attention in the form of an MTV 3 appearance and an iTunes Single of the Week. Musically, the group is sleek and stylish, combining the contemporary riff-rock of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs with the post-punk leanings of Jesus and the Mary Chain. On paper, The May Fire is ready for a viable shot at the big time; of course it’ll be up to the record companies to decide if they’re truly ready to rock. Astra Heights and Monte Negro open.
