Mattson 2 Creating an innovative jazz style with appeal to a wide range of audiences, the brotherly duo has played together since they were small. Sprouting from punk roots, Jared and Jonathan began exploring other musical genres and soon found their passion: jazz. Fast forward five years, and the two have found their calling. Fashioned in tall mod suits and stylized blond locks, the duo can be found playing an indie blend of jazz that possesses a fresh sound and youthful vigor. The brothers are introducing new and exciting soundsÑwhile still remaining reminiscent of the smoke-filled jazz clubs of decades past. Mattson 2's notes emerge from the coastal regions of Santa Cruz and San Diego, California, where the two were brought up immersed in the regionÕs surf and skate culture. At the ripe age of 17, the brothers were playing throughout Southern California, and developed two self-released albums. Mattson 2 soon became acquainted with renowned skateboarder and guitarist Ray Barbee, as well as artist and filmmaker Thomas Campbell. Soon, Mattson 2 was signed to Santa Cruz-based label, Galaxia Records, which is part-owned by Campbell. Mattson 2 has since toured the world, from coast to coast of the United States and across the Pacific into Asia. In March 2007, Mattson 2 released the record titled "Ray Barbee Meets The Mattson 2" in Japan, a collaboration melding the stylistic music of the Mattson 2 with the sounds of Ray Barbee. After visiting Tokyo on tour, the album soon earned them a top 10 ranking on iTunes Japan under Alternative Music. Mattson 2's upcoming United States album release will again feature work with Ray Barbee, as well as collaboration with John McEntire of Tortoise and The Sea and Cake; Tommy Guerrero; keyboardist Money Mark, who has worked with the Beastie Boys; and others. The album will be forthcoming in xxx 2008.
