Description
The legendary Glenn Miller was one of the most successful dance bandleaders of the swing era of the ‘30s and ‘40s. A string of hit records including "Tuxedo Junction," "In The Mood" and "Chattanooga Choo Choo" and the ability to draw a large following at venues around the country catapulted the group to fame. Glenn Miller volunteered for the Army in 1942 creating the Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band. Two years later en route to entertain troops, his plane went missing and he was never again seen. In the 1950s the Glenn Miller Orchestra continued, and the 19-member band continued playing many of the original Miller arrangements along with modern selections in the big-band style. Today, the group remains the most highly-sought big-band in the world and staying true to its roots has continued the mission of its founding leader, "A band ought to have a sound all of its own. It ought to have a personality."
