Description
Probably the oddest thing about the Family Stoned is how much they make droning psychedelic music sound upbeat. They are what Deerhoof would sound like if they were covering Melvins songs. They are a stoner-metal band for straight-edge music nerds. That means they pull from the usual batch of elements one would expect in a droning psychedelic band: outer-space jams, doom metal and free jazz but also bits of country, old-school punk and lo-fi indie rock. It's an impressive hodgepodge of underground music. Their cover of "I Wouldn't Mind Dying," from an obscure Carter Family tribute album, is very rocking and earnest.
