RAWdance will perform excerpts from a work-in-progress installation inspired by the battles over the regulation of intimacy and marriage, which is slated to premiere in UN Plaza in June. The company’s co-directors Wendy Rein and Ryan T. Smith will also revive their October 2011 duet, "A Public Affair", created for Orson Restaurant and described as “visionary dance at its best” by Critical Dance.
RAWdance will be joined by Erin Mei-Ling Stuart’s Goldie Award winning EmSpace Dance, with early investigations into a piece about primates and prayer that is set to premiere in 2013. (This little morsel is the story of a girl who lost her tail.) Also sharing works-in-progress, Christy Funsch offers her latest solo, HammerHorse, pairing work (relentless phrasing) and play (fantastical imaginings), in equal amounts, and David Martinez presents a solo for dance powerhouse Chin-chin Hsu. Breton Tyner-Bryan, performer with Deborah Slater Dance Theater and PUSH dance company and instructor at Alonzo King’s LINES Dance Center, will share an excerpted quintet. “Break the Mold”, originally commissioned by the LINES Dance Center, will be re-envisioned for the intimate Sanchez Street space. Rounding out the program, San Jose’s Dominic V. Duong will revisit Exurgency, winner of the "Audience Choice Award" at the 2009 sjDANCEco ChoreoProject Awards and finalist at ODC Theater’s 2011 A.W.A.R.D. Show.
