Description
Thrill to this adaptation of Theodore Taylor’s gripping classic novel, set in the Caribbean during World War II. Witness the compelling journey of 11-year-old Phillip, who is traveling by ship with his mother back to Virginia from the base in South America where his father has been stationed. Philip's life is plunged into chaos when the ship is torpedoed, and he is rescued by a Caribbean man named Timothy. The pair escape on a crude raft to an uninhabited island, and Philip dislikes Timothy immediately because he is huge, very old and black. Blinded from being injured in the shipwreck, the boy's only chance for survival is to let Timothy teach him the skills needed for life on the cay. Soon Philip discovers that his companion is a wise and dignified man and that the color of one's skin does not determine a person's worth in the world. Best for ages 8 and up.More Info
