Description
The Blasters are a confusing band. Their music, a heady mix of straight-ahead rock & roll, seems geared towards a baby-boomer crowd raised on the early rhythm and blues greats. And although bits of Buddy Holly, Howlin’ Wolf, and T-Bone Walker can all be found in the Blasters’ repertoire, it’s the punk-rock crowd that’s most smitten. The only explanation seems to be the group’s early days, which found them sharing gigs with members of the early ‘80s punk-rock scene that dominated the L.A. club circuit. In the same way that Johnny Cash has become a hero in the punk-rock saga, The Blasters maintain an allegiance with fans looking for a no-frills American roots style, which is what the band so poignantly delivers.
