Description

Join Stanford theater for a double bill of Fred Astaire's beloved classic musicals.

In The Band Wagon, Tony Hunter, a famous movie star, isn't feeling so amazing anymore and people are more interested in Ava Gardner, not him. He ends up joining a new Boradway show on the insistence of his old friends Lily and Les Martin. But when bigshot "artistic" director and movie star Jeffrey Cordova joins the production, he ends up hiring a prima ballerina, Gabrielle Gerard, to star alongside Tony. The two do not hit it off and hate each other from the beginning, making the show seemed doomed from the start.

In You Were Never Lovelier, the rich Argentinian Acuna family have the tradition that the daughters have to get married in from oldest to youngest. When the oldest is married, pressure is put on Maria, the second oldest, especially when her youngest siblings already have husbands lined up. Her father, who believes young men at the time were incapable of romance, begins to send his daughter romantic letters from a "secret admirer," so she could begin to fall of this mystery man, and her father could choose someone to fill that role for her. Unfortunately, Robert Davis, an American dancer looking for work, enters into the picture and Maria falls for him, much to her fathers' disapproval.
