Description
An Oscar-nominee this year for Best Foreign Language Film, this gripping, large-scale drama from writer-producer Bernd Eichinger (Downfall) and director Uli Edel dynamically reconstructs the tumult of Germany in the 1970s: murderous bomb attacks and the threat of terrorism rocking the foundations of the still fragile German democracy. Andreas Baader (Moritz Bleibtreu), Ulrike Meinhof (Martina Gedeck) and Gudrun Ensslin (Johanna Wokalek) form the Red Army Faction and fight a violent war against what they perceive as the new face of fascism: American imperialism supported by a German establishment in which many have Nazi pasts. The RAF's ideals are to create a more human society, but by employing inhuman means themselves, they lose their grip on their own humanity. The man who seems to understand them best is also their hunter: police chief Horst Herold (Bruno Ganz). For mature audiences.
