Description
The fastest-growing literary form may be the 10-minute play. Put on the map by the Humana Festival at the Actors Theatre in Louisville, Kentucky, this short form is now a favorite with schools and festivals nationwide. "Cynically put," says instructor Erin Blackwell, "they’re cheap to produce and, if they flop, they’re over in ten minutes!" Like a sonnet, the ten-minute play makes specific demands on a writer and is great training for longer works. Without getting bogged down in a full-length script, "you can find out fast what works," says Erin, "and you’re more likely to get produced." Through in-class exercises and homework, students in this class will develop and complete at least one ten-minute play and learn how to submit their work to festivals around the country.More Info
