Description
Since the late 1980’s, Thérèse Lahaie has explored themes of navigation, meditation and the possibility of enlightenment. Her most recent exhibition of sculptures, photography and site-specific installations synthesizes these themes using mapping and global/celestial travel as metaphors for spiritual pursuit. At the base of this body of work is Lahaie’s understanding that we commonly exist within the “foreground” of reality, which is skewed by distorted perceptions, unlike the “background,” uncolored by personal judgment. Through meditation, which empties the mind of judgments, one may attain moments of unmediated present-ness.
