Description

Adored around the world, the sensational Taiko drummers of TAO: The Art of the Drum provide a thrilling experience of a centuries old Japanese tradition presented with a modern flair. Stunning choreography, athletic bodies and contemporary costumes meet explosive Taiko drumming in a show that has critics waxing lyrical about TAO's extraordinary precision, energy, and stamina. With hundreds of sold-out shows and more than a million spectators, TAO has proven that modern entertainment based on the traditional art of Japanese drumming, has massive international appeal.

With over 5 million spectators in 17 countries and 400 cities worldwide, the Tao drummers of Japan have become veritable rock stars of taiko (Japanese for drum) presenting an unprecedented and timeless drumming performance, and bringing a brand new genre to the stage. Making breathtaking use of their disciplined, athletic conditioning the 20 virtuoso members of TAO live and train at a compound in the mountains of Japan, reaching the highest level of virtuosity only after years of intensive study.

TAO was formed in Aichi, Japan, in 1993. They then moved their base to "Aso-Kuju National Park" in Oita in 1995, seeking a better environment to create and develop new work. TAO's new home base "Grandioso" was established on 40,000 square meters of land that includes three rehearsal halls, all set in a beautiful natural environment. TAO has used this setting to create its unique music as well as a home to develop and train its artists.
