Thanks to the renowned San Jose Taiko (who also perform this week), the South Bay is no stranger to the art of the drum. The Tao group is like the Harlem Globetrotters of taiko—purists might complain that there's too much of an emphasis on spectacle, but there's also real craft at the heart of their performances. At their compound on the island of Kyushu, they build their discipline with a training regimen that includes 12-mile runs followed by four hours of non-stop drumming.
