Description

Take an art class in San Francisco! Root Division's Art Education Program offers professional development workshops for artists and a variety of visual art classes for the inner artist in everyone. Classes are taught by Root Division Studio and Affiliate Artists. Offerings are dynamic and affordable with shorter durations to make them accessible for working adults. Come Take An Art Class and unleash your creative impulses or give the gift of creativity to a friend or family member!

Summer 2012 TAKE AN ART CLASS! offers a return of several of our most popular courses along with some new courses as well as daytime options and classes for elementary and middle school students.

Root Division is offering 2 evening and one daytime session of Drawing 101, as well as one day and one evening session of both Acrylic Painting and Water Based Media. Sewing 101 is back by popular demand with 5 class meetings for students to get acquainted with their sewing machines and make exciting projects. Of course we will have Screen Printing 101, where students can learn to expose screens and make prints on paper and fabric! Other drawing-based offerings include a dry media Portraiture course as well as a Caricature Drawing class. New for the first time at Root Division is a Paper Folding and Origami class. For folks who have been dying to experiment with photography, we have the ever-popular Holga 101 (Night). We are also offering a Diorama workshop in conjunction with our June exhibition, Through That Which is Seen, and Summer Youth Studio, youth workshops in mixed media and drawing, will be in conjunction with our July exhibition, re:Told.

This summer’s professional development workshops include classes in Developing Curatorial Proposals, Grant Writing for Artists, and Web Design for Artists. None of these classes require any prior experience.

Courses range from $25- $175, and we offer a 10% discount for signing up with a friend. Most of the adult classes are geared for ages 16 and up. Summer Youth Studio for grades 3-8 is $250 for the week including art supplies and snacks, and scholarships and/or financial aid are available. The full class schedule and further course descriptions can be found on the Root Division website: http://rootdivision.org/adulted_current.html

All classes take place at Root Division’s facility on 17th Street, which is easily accessible by both BART & MUNI. Register online at http://www.rootdivision.org/adulted or by calling 415.863.7668.
