Description
The Jancar Jones Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibit of paintings by Los Angeles-based artist Takako Yamaguchi. The selection of exhibited paintings reflect a trend in Yamaguchi’s work toward minimal yet elegantly abstracted landscapes and seascapes. Whereas in her earlier, heavily patterned “fancy” work the figurative was at the fore, Yamaguchi’s newest body of work distills her focus on pattern and decoration into simplified yet finely rendered geometries. Her large, sharply focused canvases convey a pastoral sublimity on the verge of the psychedelic.
Yamaguchi’s work has most recently been exhibited in solo exhibitions at Cardwell Jimmerson Gallery, Los Angeles; the Nevada Museum, Reno; Katheryn Markel Fine Arts, New York and Jan Baum Gallery, Los Angeles. Her work has also been featured in the group shows Multiple Vantage Points: Southern California Women Artists 1980- 2006 at the Municipal Art Gallery, Los Angeles; Los Angeles Pattern and Decoration at Rosamund Felsen Gallery, Los Angeles and in L.A. Post-Cool at the San Jose Museum of Art and Otis College of Art and Design, Los Angeles, amongst others.
