Labayen Dance/SF, one of the Bay Area’s most exciting and innovative contemporary dance companies celebrates its 15th year with the world premiere of “TADTARIN” from Enrico Labayen, Isadora Duncan Awardee (The Izzies) for Outstanding Achievement in Choreography. Inspired by the Philippine matriarchal ritual of Tadtarin and set to Carl Orff’s iconic score, this piece explores ritual, traditions, role reversals and female identities and relationships through a contemporary lens.Set to the music of Carl Orff's iconic Carmina Burana, “TADTARIN” is a contemporary treatment of historical practices and circumstances that seeks to highlight the courage and tenacity of women everywhere. In this work, historical roles are reversed as women, in search of full cultural inclusion, move to inflict the same exclusion they suffered onto men.
