Description
Ashkenaz is hosting a Sweet and Lowdown Blues and Swing Series and featuring the band “The George Cole Quintet” on March 31st. The award winning music and culture venue, Ashkenaz is hosting a dance class and live show music series, “The Sweet and Lowdown” featuring blues and swing bands. The Gypsy, Swing and Jazz inspired band, The George Cole Quintet is performing on March 31st. George Cole got his start in rock bands touring nationally and internationally as a guitarist with the bands, “Big Blue Hearts” and “Beatnik Beatch.” After recording and performing with Roy Thomas Baker, Joe Walsh and Chris Isaak and teaching guitar lessons to Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day fame, George realized that he wanted to perform music in the style of Django Reinhardt’s quintet. This was the music that originally inspired his guitar playing. He sold his electric guitars and began studying acoustic Gypsy and Jazz music with the masters. He began writing and composing his own music and started a Quintet, gathering together some of the best and fastest players in town. He found a classically trained female vocalist, Molly Mahoney and started crooning and singing duets. George then began performing with legends Keely Smith, Warren Zevon and Buster Poindexter. His music is a mix of Swing, Gypsy, Jazz, Samba, and some European influences thrown in. It’s perfect to dance to with it’s fast tempo and dynamic sounds.“George Cole and his band puts you in a sexy European dream. Think Paris…and red wine…and new love, lost in a kiss on a wet cobblestone street.”
