This inspiring documentary from Bay Area filmmakers Lisa and Rob Fruchtman focuses on a remarkable group of Rwandan women who form the country’s first all-female drumming troupe, Ingoma Nshya, and open the country’s first ice cream shop. Made up of women from both sides of the 1994 Rwandan genocide, the drumming troupe offers a place of support, healing and reconciliation. And when they partner with two young American entrepreneurs on the ice cream shop, they embark on a journey of independence, peace and possibility. In English and Kinyarwanda with English subtitles. Writers/Directors: Lisa Fruchtman, Rob Fruchtman. (US/Rwanda 2012) 84 min. plus discussion and performance.
Following the screening, members of Ingoma Nshya will share their talent with a short performance. Drummers include Odile Kiki Katese (founder), Ingabire Rose, Mujawayezu Therese, Uwintiji Clementine and Uwamariya Clementine.
