Description
WHAT:San Francisco's 1974 Gay Freedom Day Parade had about 3,000 participants. In 1975, there were 10,000 & in 1976 15,000. The '77, '78, & '79 parades each attracted 100,000 participants or more, plus that many spectators.
The late '70s were the first years of marching up Market Street, of grants to the parade from the city's Hotel Tax Fund, of mayoral proclamations, of a giant post-parade fair, and of many other characteristics that still define Pride Day today.
Join us and organizers of the 1970s Pride marches as they share their experiences of the parade's formative years. Panelists include Celeste Newbrough, Howard Wallace, Paul Gabriel. Moderator: Randy Alfred.
