Description

Inspired by Mayor Ed Lee's Innovation Month and this week's Meeting of the Minds event on smart cities, Start-Ups & Cities brings together not only the big thinkers but the doers in city government and local start-ups. We want this event to spur action, new partnerships, and new ideas.

To do this, we've invited Timothy Papandreou, Deputy Director of Sustainable Streets at the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency; a member of Mayor Ed Lee's Innovation Team; and Alicia Johnson, Resilience and Recovery Manager at the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management to speak about how their agencies use data to provide services to San Franciscans and the role that better, bigger, and fresher data could have in their work.

From the start-up side, we have Jon Mills, CEO and Founder of Motionloft, Isaac Herrera, Co-founder of flyer.io, David Woodworth, Co-founder of 42Floors, and Binh Tran, Co-Founder of Klout to tell us about the better, bigger, and fresher data their company is pulling together and what actionable information can be gleaned from it. We ask them to dream big about the power of their data and propose new uses.

Speakers each will deliver a brief presentation on their big ideas, and then we open up to discussion and mingling.

Appetizers will be provided and a few drinks on the house. Be sure to RSVP early - we expect this event to reach capacity quickly! Can't make it? Follow hashtag #startupscities. Entertainment will be provided by Chris Clouse, he'll play from 9pm on.

Innovation is a process; Start-ups & Cities is one important step in connecting the people to do it.
