Description
The Stanford Symphony Orchestra welcomes its new conductor, Paul Phillips! The SSO opens its 2017-18 season with music from France and Russia, along with a work by the acclaimed Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho, a Helsinki native who has lived in Paris since 1982, bridging both musical worlds. Her "oceanic" tone poem, Ciel d'hiver ("Winter Sky"), beautifully complements Debussy's La mer. Berlioz's Roman Carnival Overture and Tchaikovsky's "Rococo" Variations, performed by Concerto Competition winner Danna Xue, round out the program.More Info
