Enjoy a glass of wine with us at Carte Blanche Gallery & Bookstore on Friday, July 20, as we celebrate the opening of our newest show: Spektrum Berlin. In his first solo exhibition in the United States, Berlin-based photographer Matthias Heiderich examines an industrial past with a present freshness and optimism for the future.

About the show

Spektrum Berlin challenges visions and stereotypes of Germany—particularly East Berlin—through colorful, eye-popping urban architectural photography. Through Heiderich's lens, the world is transformed into an abstract canvas of lines, patterns, angular compositions, and vibrant colors. Emerging directly from a 1980s color palette with influences by 1950s and 60s color photography and polaroids, Heiderich's prints saturate reality to the limit.

About the photographer

Born in Bad Hersfeld, Germany, Matthias Heiderich is a self-taught photographer currently living and working in Berlin, where his images have been exhibited widely. Following his studies in linguistics and phonetics, he completed a Master of Arts from Trinity College, Dublin. In addition to pursuing photographic projects, Heiderich also operates a record label, WeirdandWired.net, and is a DJ and music producer.
