Description

The South Bay Left Bank Brasseries in San Jose and Menlo Park will host a Fête Alsacienne beginning on Thursday, October 11 and continuing through Saturday, October 13. The highlight of the celebration will be Alsace inspired a la carte menu specials that will vary depending on location. The brasseries will also offer a choice of three Alsace appellation wines in a flight of two ounce pours for $14.00 (also served by the bottle, carafe or glass, details to follow). In addition, two beers, Kronenbourg 1664 and Fischer Amber, will be featured (priced a la carte). All regular a la carte lunch and dinner selections will be available.

The spirit underlying this celebration is born of Alsatian heritage which is infused with both French and German influences and a cuisine distinguished by hearty dishes, distinctive wines and plentiful beers.

In San Jose, the a la carte specials will be a traditional Alsatian tart with caramelized onions, bacon and crème fraîche ($9.50); slow braised sauerkraut with white wine, juniper berries, duck fat, Kassler Rippchen, Bockwurst sausage, European brand Wieners sausage, slab bacon and fingerling potatoes ($24.50); and Munster cow’s milk soft cheese served with fruit relish and pain d’épices ($6.50).

In Menlo Park, the a la carte specials will be housemade blood sausage with sliced apples, sauerkraut, crème fraîche and fingerling potatoes ($12.50); juniper infused braised veal cheek with turnips, carrots, mushrooms and housemade Alsatian knepfle ($23.50); and chestnuts with Alsatian style poached dried apricots, brown sugar and cinnamon streusel ($7.00).

Both locations will be pouring Domaine Roland Schmitt, 2011 Riesling, ‘Glintzberg’ ($48.00 per bottle, $35.00 per carafe, $14.00 per glass); Lucien Albrecht, 2010 Gewurztraminer, Reserve ($42.00 per bottle, $30.00 per carafe, $12.00 per glass); and Réne Muré, 2010 Pinot Gris, Signature ($48.00 per bottle, $35.00 per carafe, $14.00 per glass).
