FAIRFAX – On April 2nd, 2010, elsewhere gallery opens its monthly exhibit “Smile Increase Your Face Value” featuring artworks by Chuck Galvin D.V.M., AKA Stonefox. The exhibit will celebrate animals people who cares for them. The exhibit will have a companion group show by local artists includes works by artist such as Geoff Bernstein, Veronica Buros, well known for parody painting with dogs, emerging artist Jenny Snodgrass, and fiber artist Jennifer Sohn who adds environmental concerns.

One can say “Smile Increase Your Face Value” is a “Rock Art“ led by a character named Rocky Gladstone. The creator of Rocky Gladstone, Stonefox AKA Chuck Galvin D.V.M., incorporates rocks, mineral, concrete debris, old tools and found objects with resin to transform them into unique characters. As a veterinarian, Dr. Galvin had performed delicate surgery on exotic birds and other pets. In the hands of Sonefox, character emerges with a life of its own. Some of them are born with names that are whimsical to our ears and to our minds. Galvin, who recently stepped back from four decades of private practice, shifted his focus from art of healing animals to art of passing on happiness though his artworks. These two passions share similar philosophies that ultimately bring happiness to people in much the same way.

Throughout his career as veterinarian, Galvin actively promoted his attitude towards the world and fellow living things by developing new technique to teach others, doing volunteered work for local animal organizations. He had participated in the publication of literatures for training of both professionals and the pet owners. His unique style of practice was written in many publications. Galvin selflessly served his clients and their pets for the value and a dedication not available anywhere else.

His clinic, “Imaginarium” has been aired on Bay Area Backroads, Our Town, and Channel 4 News. As a result, he had attracted thousands of clients from SF Bay Area, all over CA, out of state.

His “Wiz-Dum Foolosophy of Lyfe” and “Holiday Wish List” which have become a seasonal gift his friends and clients look forward to have every year. The booklet version of “Wiz-Dum Foolosophy of Lyfe”, designed by elsewhere gallery, can be purchased during the show.

“Creating Whimsical art reminds me not to take myself too seriously and to weave a playful creative spirit around the spiritual fiber of my life” he sates. His creations are to him “mental floss in the light against truth decay”. He wishes to bring people a smile (a curved line that sets things straight) that may burst into laughter. “In the world full of conflict, may we create and find beauty…and put the FUN in a sometime dys-FUN-ctional world”, he adds. His artwork includes “Rocky Gladstones”, “Grumblestones”, “Air Head”, “Lid-zard of Ahhhs”, “Concretion Family”, “Fvases”, “Platter Puss”, Pail Face”.

Often the topics his artwork touches maybe taken as cute, naïve, and “new-agey”. Most of the time, we feel too silly too talk about them. So then, let’s have a good laugh about ourselves. Join the “Laughsitive” party on First Friday, April 2nd, 6-9pm at elsewhere gallery, 1828 Sir Francis Drake Blvd. Fairfax, CA 94930. Refreshments and snacks are served. Guitarist Gary and Harpist Paula will play live at the reception. Call (415) 747-8696 for additional information. The gallery begins the third year of Monthly event “First Friday in Fairfax” with this exciting exhibition.

“I miss my animals, but it’s great to have time to do my art” Stonefox says, and he has shown it through his creativity.
