Description
The SJZ Boom Box will be one of the two stages at this year's Juneteenth in the Park Festival. Come out with the family and celebrate this historic day with live music performances on the Boom Box stage curated by San Jose Jazz. The Main Stage will be hosted by Marcus Washington, an NBC Bay Area news anchor and the headliner for this stage is Brandy, a multi-platinum Grammy Award-winning R&B/pop singer, songwriter and actress. This year's theme, "Celebrating Sankofa"-which means "in order to understand our present and ensure our future, we must know our past"-will incorporate Silicon Valley's African and African American culture with live entertainment, a "Soul Food Row," arts and crafts vendors, health screenings, a community resource tent with more than 30 community-based organizations represented, and a youth area with games for all ages.
Featured on the SJZ Boom Box will be 2017 Summer Fest guitarist Isaiah. Known as "the blues prophet," Isaiah is a local Bay Area artist who has the ability to "transport time back to the '50s with an iconic sound that complements his classic look" (San Pedro Square Market blog).
Another artist to look out for on the Boom Box stage is guitarist Kenya B. Kenya B was the lead guitarist for British singer/songwriter and Grammy Award winner Joss Stone from 2006-2010. He has toured internationally and played for dignitaries including President Clinton and the British Royal Family. An Oakland native, Kenya B was immersed in the R&B and blues scene in its heyday. During that time, he played with some of the biggest names in the industry including Sly Stone, Larry Graham, Frankie Beverly and Maze, The Whispers, Tony!Toni!Tone! and many more.
