Peninsula Women’s Caucus for Art - Art Exhibition, Size MattersBelmont, California, April 17, 2011 – The Peninsula Chapter of the Women’s Caucus for Art presents a member exhibition titled Size Matters. The exhibition will be held from May 11, 2012 through July 6, 2012 at the Avenue 25 Gallery, San Mateo. The public reception and opportunity to meet the artists will be held on Saturday, May 12, from 2-4 pm. This event is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Mondays through Fridays from 9 am to 5 pm.
The theme, Size Matters, was selected by the group to create large artwork that would stimulate audience reaction; women are many times stereotyped as makers of small works of art. Viewers will discover that the artists have made great strides to disprove this idea through the creation of their art. The works on display cover a broad range of media, including painting and mixed media.
Alysanne McGaffey’s Easter Morning: The Rollicking Hills of Half Moon Bay is the last in her big oil series of sites along Highway One, Skyline Drive and Highway 280 – all in San Mateo County. Alysanne says, “The elements dance and swirl about. Clouds, trees and hills become animated forms of color and light.”
Nancee McDonell made a collage using colors and shapes that reflect her thoughts that size DOES matter. “The definition of the word size pertains to a measurement. I am aware of
how much in our world and life cannot be measured, an act of kindness, an appreciation of something beautiful. Size is important in many aspects of our life. It's a balancing act for us.”
Included in the exhibit is an acrylic and tissue paper on canvas art by Rebecca Lambing who says, “The size of our imaginations can surpass anything in our line of vision, creating beauty and unexpected worlds.”
