Description
Displaced by civil war from their homeland of Sierra Leone to neighboring Guinea, Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars started playing music together in camps as a way to pass the time and entertain the other refugees. At the end of the war, the band returned to the capital city of Freetown, expanded the lineup and recorded its debut album, drawing comparisons to the Buena Vista Social Club and praise from critics and music lovers along the way. Now, several albums and a documentary later, the Refugee All Stars continue to convey their message of hope, justice and unity.
