Description
Carlmont Village Shopping Center serves as an outdoor art gallery during the Sidewalk Fine Arts Festival taking place Friday through Sunday, March 25-27, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. More than 20 celebrated artists will be on hand during this free event, giving visitors the opportunity to browse and buy unique and original pieces ranging from paintings, photography, ceramics, fine jewelry and much more.Among this year’s artists is Mendy Marks of San Francisco who creates handmade jewelry. Mendy’s jewelry is influenced by the many levels and colors in landscapes. Using anodized aluminum, sterling silver, gold, copper, and brass she layers shapes, colors and textures in her jewelry to create sensual, sculptural earrings, pins, and necklaces. Some elements are patinated, or heat-treated, to give them a more aged, natural look. She then accents the pieces with freshwater pearls and beads made of gemstones and minerals.
Sue Fox-Capeloto of Garden Valley, California will be showing her functional ceramic kitchen pieces. Sue specializes in gourmet dinnerware and kitchenware, creating full sets of dinner plates as well as large mixing bowls, vases and much more. Sue’s work has special appeal to engaged couples who register for her dinnerware as part of the wedding gift registry. For those special sets, Sue dates each piece with the wedding date and engraves the couple’s name. “My clients consistently tell me how nice it is to have art pieces that you can use and interact with,” says Sue.
Painter John Muir Reid of West Point, California – a great, great nephew of John Muir, America's most famous and influential naturalist and conservationist - paints landscapes and seascapes in both oil and watercolor. Like his distant uncle, John draws inspiration from the high Sierra’s where he has been known to backpack in order to find just the right area to paint. A painter for nearly 20 years, Reid also captures scenes of the Central Coast. “Painting up and down the coast is really exciting,” he says. “The sky is always changing colors and energy.”
Additional artists participating in the Sidewalk Fine Arts Festival include Karen Hale of Jackson, California showing her mixed media paintings that incorporate texture, dimension and a love of color; Phillip Glashoff of Suisun City, California, who uses found objects to create large and small whimsical metal sculptures; and Gayle Mayhew of Valley Springs showcasing her whimsical ”Fun Girls Jewelry” including necklaces, bracelets and earrings.
The Festival is sponsored by the Carlmont Village Merchant Association. Carlmont Village Shopping Center is located on Ralston Avenue at Alameda de las Pulgas. For more information on the event, contact Pacific Fine Arts at (209) 267-4394 or visit http://www.pacificfinearts.com.
