Description
Don Soker Contemporary Art is pleased to announce Sublimating, a solo exhibition of wall mounted ceramic works by the Japanese artist Shoichi Seino from June 22 – July 31.The works in the exhibition are of an unusual technique. Industrial ceramic graphite and white ceramic chemical-filter material are reworked by various means. They are variously scored, incised, cut and reassembled, often with other types of ceramic material. Small in scale they appear as very substantial. From the early 1970’s when he began to work as an artist in the field of ceramics, Seino’s primary interest has been the organic changes in nature and the essential nature of materials. For him, ceramic art is important as a means of exposing the qualities of the material, as opposed to the creation of form.
Shoichi Seino studied at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts. He resides in Nagoya, Japan. This is his 6th exhibition at Don Soker Contemporary Art.
