Observational Science is dedicated to the creation of new theater works through cross-disciplinary experimentation and collaboration. Drawing inspiration from a broad range of subject matter and creative media, its central purpose is two-fold: 1) To cultivate new theatrical forms and techniques that both challenge and reflect contemporary society; 2) To disrupt the containment and stability of theatrical tradition. Company co-founders and co-directors are Celeste Martinez and Channing Sargent.

Channing Sargent is a writer, actor, and performance artist. Her original performance works have been featured at venues across both coasts including Galapagos Art Space, Williamsburg Art NexXus (WAX), HERE, CounterPulse, Shotwell Studios, The Marsh, 975 Howard/The Garage, and the SF Theatre Festival. As an actor, Sargent has appeared in many short films and indie features. Some of her favorite theater roles include Masha in The Three Sisters, Sophia in Uncle Vanya, and Susie in Wait Until Dark. In 2007, Sargent co-founded Observational Science, a company dedicated to the creation of new theater works. Sargent is a member of the Artist's Development Lab, New Works West Theatre Company, and is a collaborating artist with peck peck dance ensemble. She currently resides in Hollywood.

Celeste Martinez is a graduate of the Lecoq School and the London International School for Performing Arts, and has studied at the Institut International des Marionnettes, Charleville-Meziere and the Udk Berlin. She has performed in many places and with many theater companies, such as Sledgehammer, innermission, The Prince Myshkins and ion theater in San Diego, Asphault in Boulder, and locally with mugwumpin, Boxcar, and the SF Theater Festival, and has acted in numerous short films. Martinez is co-founder of Observational Science, a company dedicated to the creation of new theater works.

Sharon Mashihi and Jaimie Venci present "The Light Under the Blanket" - Bay Area dancer Jamie Venci teams up with New York storyteller Sharon Mashihi to tell secrets in a fort in the darkness as the two women explore the bittersweetness of nostalgia and the collective cultural impulse to own and lock up both traumatic and delicious memories. The mutli-tasking performers do all of this while spontaneously bursting into arabesques and orchestrating a soundscape live using a dozen vintage analog tape recorders.

Susan Kanga is a multi-disciplinary,community-based artist whose solo theater performance has previously focused on family and other actual stories of war,immigration and cultural displacement. Her previous solo shows include "Currywurst:Not For Europeans Only" and "Menstruating in Pakistan: When I Was the Foreigner."

"This Arundhati, She Is Always Complaining," is a series of linked South Asian women's monologues exploring the connections between globalized consumerism and poverty, diaspora and cultural erosion,internalized oppression and radical activism.In "This Arundhati," a mother berates activist Arundhati Roy for complaining too much, while bemoaning her own lack of choice in life, while her daughter,"Dot-Com Babli," tries to hold it together in a new country she can't quite afford.

SAFEhouse for the Performing Arts (Saving Art From Extinction) @ The Garage is a non-profit arts presenting organization that specializes in incubating new performing art through residencies, workshops and performance. The Garage is the home of the raw & uncut performance showcase, RAW (resident artists’ workshop), SPF and AIRspace (queer performing artists residency program).
