Description
Cincinnati might seem an odd home for one of the world's foremost Indian composers, but Kanniks Kannikeswaran has made it his base in between sojourns to guide local Indian-American choirs in performances of his opus, Shanti: A Journey of Peace. The singular work infuses the Western orchestral tradition with Eastern sounds. Choirs harmonize in swelling, sweeping progression over twangy tabla taps and haunting whines coaxed out of the sitar as dances, narrations and multimedia projections provide visual accompaniment to the audio. This show has run for more than 10 years and been performed by over 1,000 people from all corners of this country. (JF)
