FRONT COUNTRY (Bay Area)
Front Country is a who’s who of Bay Area bluegrass and country pickers – featuring members of the Whisky Richards, the Midnight Gamblers, the Heel Draggers, Belle Monroe & Her Brewglass Boys. Formed in 2011 as a collective of the Bay Area’s finest young acoustic talent, Adam Roszkiewicz, Jacob Groopman, Jordan Klein, Leif Karlstrom, Melody Walker, and Zach Sharpe joined forces to play a monthly gig with friends in San Francisco’s Mission District. They quickly found a musical rapport that was open to challenging arrangements, unique covers and original songwriting. Their repertoire rapidly expanded and in January of 2012 Front Country became the second Northern California band in three years to win the prestigious RockyGrass band competition.

POSSUM & LESTER (SF)
This acoustic stringband are the offspring of the Pine Box Boys and Kemo Sabe. Not quit as dark, spooky, and drunk as their older kin, but somehow are much older than their kin. It's weird, but true. After all, these hillbillies do come from the backwoods of Arkansas and Oklahoma. Possum and Lester's repertoire date back to the early days of stringband music (1900-1930) and to the early days of bluegrass (1940s). Lester Raw (Pine Box Boys) on vocals and acoustic guitar, Possum (Pine Box Boys) on banjo and vocals, Cary Kirk (Kemo Sabe) on mandolin and vocals, Col. Leather (Pine Box Boys) on bass, and featuring some of the best and worst jokes you've never heard.

THE SKINNY (Oakland)
The Skinny is a knee-slapping, tear-jerking, foot-stomping, crowd-pleasing, playing not-so-traditional folk and bluegrass, and loving every minute kind of band. These pickers combine sweet harmonies with dobro, banjo, guitar, fiddle, mandolin, accordion, ukelele and a rockin’ bass line, pulling you in 'til you wanna pick up anything that makes noise and play along too.

THE HARKENBACKS (Berkeley)
Appalachian-urban folk heroes, the Harkenbacks play a brand of music that, while steeped in mythic Americana, still decisively confronts the modern age. Their music harkens back to a time when people were good to each other. Trusting in wooden instruments and in their own voices, they sing traditional songs penned yesterday alongside contemporary material written before your grandmother was born.
