Description
Our “Encounter” Big Idea explores different ways art engages a social context. There are few better examples of this than Sesame Street. Having recently reached its 40th year, we celebrate this landmark show with this three-program series, which includes some of the most memorable moments as well as never-before-seen footage. Sesame Street premiered in 1969 on PBS and is now the longest-running children's television series in the U.S., and broadcast in more than 140 countries. The show was groundbreaking for its mixture of educational and entertaining content, teaching children life skills while encouraging development in math and literacy. It has also been revolutionary for addressing life experiences and social issues such as death, divorce, adoption, and the recession, and for featuring a diverse, multicultural cast. And, as a bonus program, we also present Muppets 201, a brand-new program of Muppets rarities and classic moments.
