OSTEOPOROSIS

WHEN: THURSDAY, MAY 31, 2012 1:00 PM
WHERE: 1871 THE ALAMEDA, SAN JOSE, CA. NEAR W. HEDDING ST.
PRESENTERS: Lorna Beukema, PT
FREE ADMISSION
TOPIC: OSTEOPOROSIS

Osteoporosis is a condition which weakens bones over time. It is a silent disease – you can’t see it or feel it until a fracture happens. In the US, 44 million people have low bone density and 50% of post menopausal women will fracture a bone due to osteoporosis. Approximately 20% of those who experience a hip fracture will die within the year following the fracture. In this seminar you will learn about osteoporosis – what it is, signs and symptoms, risk factors, treatment, prevention, exercise and fall reduction techniques.

Lorna Beukema has lived and worked in the Bay Area for over 30 years. As a Licensed Physical Therapist, Lorna started her Home Health career at Stanford Hospital working in a variety of capacities including direct patient care, management and administration. In 2001, Lorna founded Nursing & Rehab At Home (a Medicare Certified Home Health Agency) who now employs more than 50 nurses, therapists and support staff. In 2010, Lorna founded Agility Health (a Licensed Private Duty Home Health Agency) which provides continuous medical and non-medical care in the home. Lorna also serves as Treasurer of the Bay Area Directors Forum, and is an active participant in APTA (American Physical Therapy Association), CAHSAH (California Association for Health Services at Home) and NAHC (National Association for Home Care and Hospice).
