Description
More than six decades after his assassination, Mohandas Gandhi is still considered to be the most iconic figure of modern India. Join the UC Santa Cruz Arts Department as they welcome Vinay Lal to give a presentation entitled "Gandhi and the Practices & Politics of Visual Representation." This discussion will examine the life and work of Gandhi in the light of various forms of visual representation, from cartoons and public statues to paintings and nationalist prints, and what kind of insights we may be able to derive from a study of these images.
