Barbara Holmes and Christine Lee studied woodworking and furniture design, Mary Donald and Laurel Nathanson studied metalsmithing and jewelry design. Each of these artists has rejected the traditional materials used in these respective fields, frequently opting instead for recycled, reclaimed and/or alternative goods. While production within these two design/craft based fields are broad in scope, they're often associated with painstaking, labor-intensive processes that can sometimes interfere with the creative impulse where ideas are born. Although a level of refinement will always remain true to their work, Sans Polish, is an opportunity for these four artists to show the spirited output that results from this uninhibited exploration of materials, processes and form.
