Description

The Nihonmachi Outreach Committee will present San jose's 32nd annual Day of Remembrance to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Executive Order 9066, an order given during World War II that led to the incarceration of more than 120,000 people living in the United States who were of Japanese descent, two-thirds of whom were American citizens.

"Civil Liberties Under Siege" will re-examine what Japanese Americans endured during World War II and draw comparisons to the challenges that today's Arabs, Muslims, and South Asian Americans are facing in the United States today.

Congressman Mike Honda and civil liberties activists Karen Korematsu and Zahra Billoo will speak at the event.

This event is free and open to the public.
