This artist-driven collaboration pairs two of contemporary jazz's most promising rising stars: vocalist Ambrose Akinmusire and pianist Gerald Clayton.Ambrose Akinmusire was born and raised in Oakland, and has toured in Europe with the band Five Elements. He also won the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition, awarded to him by a panel of judges that included Quincy Jones, Clark Terry, and Roy Hargrove. He has since signed with Blue Note Records.
Gerald Clayton has been saluted by The New York Times for his "Oscar-Peterson like style" and "huge, authoritative presence" as a jazz pianist. He has recorded and performed with some of the biggest names in jazz, including Lewis Nash, Al Foster, Terrell Stafford, Diana Krall, Clark Terry, and Hank Jones.
