The five-time Grammy Award-winning San Francisco Girls Chorus, led by interim Music Director Brandon Brack, opens its exciting 34th annual season with "Vivaldi’s Venice – Music of the Italian Baroque" at 8 p.m. on November 2, 2012 at the Herbst Theatre in San Francisco. Joined by guest artists from the American Bach Orchestra and conductor Jeffrey Thomas, the Girls Chorus will present a program featuring Vivaldi’s Gloria in its original treble chorus arrangement as well as music Vivaldi wrote for young women and girls he trained in the Venetian ospedale. The program also includes Vivaldi’s Beatus Vir R. 598, Nicola Porpora’s De Profundis and Baldasare Galuppi’s Dixit Dominus. The evening begins with a pre-concert talk given by novelist Barbara Quick, whose best-selling novel, Vivaldi’s Virgins, evokes the time and its music.
