Description
San Francisco Art Institute is pleased to present M. Lamar: NEGROGOTHIC—a multi-layered examination of the often-violent social, political, and sexual representations of black masculinity in contemporary culture—on display at the Walter and McBean Galleries, January 30–February 28, 2015. The exhibition blends operatic vocal performance with references to death metal and Negro spirituals, and incorporates imagery of slave ships, bondage, lynchings, capital punishment, sadomasochism, and the photography of Robert Mapplethorpe to present a searing and soaring portrait of contemporary America. The exhibition is on display in in the Walter and McBean Galleries at San Francisco Art Institute’s 800 Chestnut Street Campus from January 30–February 28, 2015. A special opening reception will be hosted Friday, January 30, 7–9 p.m.
