Description

Rwandan Artist Jean Bosco Bakunzi Makes First Appearance in the Bay Area

Rwandan artist and genocide survivor Jean Bosco Bakunzi will exhibit his work for the first time in the Bay Area on August 21, 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, at Progressive Grounds, 2301 Bryant Street, in San Francisco. The reception will include a brief talk at 8:15 pm with Bakunzi about his life and work as part of a new generation of Rwandan visual artists who are healing the wounds of a country rebuilding from civil war. Sales of his uplifting and colorful paintings will benefit the Uburanga Arts Studio's work to connect people across cultural divides, nurture the creativity of youth, and inspire hope for a bright future for Rwanda.

Bakunzi says,"I believe that art has the power to heal people mentally, emotionally and spiritually because of how it has healed me. With this project, we are able to help children deal with the traumas they have faced in their lives by inspiring them and helping develop their skills and creativity so that they can look to a better future."
