Description
Phoenix's ROAR, isn't particularly prolific. Since the band's formation in 2010 they've only recorded and released two EPs, but they are filled with some really good Beach Boys-meets-Zombies psych-pop tunes. They take that dreamy Phil Spector wall of sound, filter it through lo-fi rawness and pull off some impressive vocal harmonies in the process. As tender and goosebump-inducing as their songs get, ROAR delves into some dark territory, like the lush, Spector-influenced "Christmas Kids," where the lyrics go on to describe what a controlling creep Spector is in real life. The Minibosses' Aaron Burke plays bass for the band. (Aaron Carnes)
