Description
Saturday, October 27, 2012 from 12noon - 4pm Creative family play river coming to The History Museum of Los Gatos! Riveropolis fosters creativity and community interaction via the magical powers of rushing water. Pioneered by San Francisco artist Gregory Gavin, Riveropolis play-rivers are water features similar to small creeks with fast moving currents eddies and waterfalls. Along the water’s edge (elevated to table height) play-rivers feature carefully configured work surfaces, building materials, river rocks and whimsical miniature toy figures. The combination of trance-inducing water and cool stuff to play with engenders a unique social and creative environment. When encountering a play river many children and adults will find themselves engrossed in the design and construction of boats, bridges and other water inspired structures. A special quality flowing of water is that it links the parts of the environment it moves through to connect the activities of all involved. Anyone who has observed families knows that if children are engaged, it provides a special opportunity for caregivers to pause catch their breath, socialize and perhaps get creative themselves! The intention of Riveropolis is to engage participants of all ages. . “A primary goal of my work,” Gavin says, “is to bring public spaces to life by creating a social and creative environment where friends or total strangers can find themselves drawn into chatting and fiddling around with materials. Before you know it, you’ve forgotten why you were in such a hurry and you’re building a little part of a collective world.”Experience Riveropolis in person, October 27, where you and Gavin will be building rivers from 12noon - 4pm. This is an all day event for kids and parents of all ages with free food and drinks!
