Description
Now reopened at its fabulous new location in downtown San Francisco, the Varnish Fine Art gallery celebrates its re-launch with two group exhibitions, Relaunch Parts I and II.The gallery officially reopened on Saturday, September 24th with its most exciting group show of two-dimensional artwork yet. Part II directly follows with a stunning exhibit of three-dimensional artwork by 20 artists. Relaunch Part II is a group show of sculpture in a variety of media, featuring reunited artists plus artists who recently came aboard.
The sculptors in the show are rooted in various worlds, from internationally known artists Stanislav Szukalski and Jessica Joslin to local Bay Area greats such as Michael Sturtz, founder of The Crucible, to Southern California sculptor Jose Ismael Fernandez, well-known in the film-making world for specialized costume design.
“In my work, I look back to a time when one’s craft was evolved over many years, honed through apprenticeships. The parts are integrated with the finely wrought craft of an artisan watchmaker. Miniature machine bolts, springs and couplings comprise anatomical structures. Many of the beasts have hidden movements: a spring loaded beak, snapping jaws, jointed legs and adjustable tails. Some creatures are free-standing but have mechanisms to allow for movement or multiple positions.”---Jessica Joslin
For the opening reception, many of the artists will be in attendance.
