Description

Redwood Symphony opens the concert with Dvorak's Slavonic Dances No. 7 & 8 - Kristin Link conducting.

Next maestro Erik K leads the orchestra in the Bay Area premiere of "Mr. Tambourine Man." John Corigliano set the lyrics from seven classic Bob Dylan songs including “Mr. Tambourine Man,” “Blowin' in the Wind,” “All Along the Watchtower” and “Masters of War” to new music. He composed "Mr Tambourine Man" without ever having heard the original Dylan songs. Diane Squires is the soprano soloist.

The concert conludes with The Miraculous Mandarin. BartĂłk's erotic and powerfully driven score is set to a compelling and unusual ballet subject: the serial search for mugging victims by a prostitute and three thugs is blown apart by the appearance of a mysterious stranger who refuses to die when he's being murdered.
