Redwood Symphony proudly presents the Bay Area premiere of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Retouched by Mahler.

Raeeka Shehabi-Yaghmai, soprano; Theresa Cardinale, mezzo-soprano; Steve Guggenheim, tenor; and Steven Goodman, baritone, will join Maestro Eric K, Redwood Symphony and the Redwood Symphony Festival Chorus. The performance will include supertitles.

The rousing evening opens with Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture conducted by Sanford Dole, Artistic Director and Conductor of Bay Choral Guild, and Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite conducted by Bryan Baker, Artistic Director and Conductor of Masterworks Chorale, the San Mateo-based choral ensemble.

In his pre-concert lecture at 7 p.m., the background and impact of Beethoven’s 9th will be explored by Eric K with an emphasis on Gustav Mahler’s unique “retouchings.”
