Description

In his extraordinary series of formal studio self-portraits, Rafael Goldchain fills in the gaps of his family history by assuming the identities of his late ancestors, both male and female, from Poland, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Israel, Mexico, and the United States. In its conception and execution, Familial Ground becomes an act of mourning and remembrance. On Thursday, October 25, Goldchain will discuss his artistic process, including his use of theatrical costume, make-up, and props to achieve his detailed reenactments. Born in Santiago, Chile, Rafael Goldchain teaches photography and digital art in Ontario, Canada. Exhibit open all regular Library hours. Co-sponsored by the Contemporary Jewish Museum.
