Description

Race: As a topic it makes many people fidget, clear their throats and start to check the clock to see if they might be able to make an exit. Yet, in many people's lives and in their histories, race is something more than just a topic. At one time or another, attitudes about race have presented many questions in American society. AfroSolo has gathered visual artists who have made paintings, sculptures, quilts, drawings and photographs that creatively capture those "race questions" and put them on display for us. Sometimes the questions are quiet and complex. Sometimes the questions are bold and cannot be ignored. This art show highlights that time spent really getting to know the question before the answer comes.

We will showcase the works of eleven artists. The exhibition will showcase these artists' individual responses to some of the influences that race has on their lives as well as how race informs our interpretation of history, heritage, and social codes of conduct. It is curated by Michael Ross.
