Description

Quiet Lightning is a monthly submission-based reading series that features an unpredictable mash-up of original stories, poems, monologues, rants, and otherwise uncategorizable feats of written expression. Accepted submissions are selected by a blind process and organized into two sets that weave various patterns of language into a literary mixtape. Author introductions and banter are banned, allowing the pieces to transition seamlessly into one another while forcing the work to speak for itself and in conversation with the rest of the show.

The series, which has occupied art galleries, bars, concert halls, nightclubs, bookstores, and iconic San Francisco landmarks such as The Conservatory of Flowers and the Westerfeld Mansion, provides both new and established writers with a platform for performance (through the live show and videos of the performances) and publication (through sPARKLE & bLINK, a printed version of the show available at the events and online which feature a new local artist for the cover art each month).

There are only two rules:

1. To submit, you have to commit to the date of the show.
2. You don't get more than 8 minutes (with some exceptions).

Here is a list of our upcoming shows, their locations, and submission deadlines:

-August 6th @ The Conservatory of Flowers– submissions closed.

-September 3rd (reading + live music and Labor Day picnic) @ The Conservatory of Flowers – submissions OPEN until midnight of Weds, August 15th.

-October 8th (as part of Litquake) @ The Conservatory of Flowers-submissions closed.
