Description
This multiple-award-winning documentary follows a year in the lives of inner-city seniors at Philadelphia's Frankford High School, as they attempt to transcend grim futures of minimum-wage job opportunities by excelling in the Culinary Arts "boot camp" run by veteran teacher Wilma Stephenson. An enlightened despot who is infamously blunt, Stephenson has taught at Frankford for 40 years, starting long before Culinary Arts became part of the school's curriculum. Her "boot camp" disciplines students into responsible and capable chefs. She can be cantankerous but behind her tough-talking exterior is a dedicated teacher who cares passionately about getting the best out of her students. This inspirational film follows three junior chefs who flourish under her guidance and prove that Stephenson fights tirelessly for opportunities and scholarships for those who get with the program.
